Preston named best city to live and work in the North West

Preston named best city to live and work in the North West

A growth index which charts levelling up, has once again named Preston as the highest performing city in the whole of the North West of England.

Preston was praised in the Demo-PWC Good Growth for Cities Index as it beat the likes of Manchester and Liverpool to the top spot for the third time. Preston achieved impressive above average scores from the public across a number of different categories about what is important for them in terms of economic wellbeing. The index looked at each city’s availability for jobs, a positive work-life balance as well as the skills of the current population and the variety of roles that were on offer.

Leader of Preston City Council, Matthew Brown, said: “I am delighted that Preston has maintained its position.

“The report also shows that our city has pulled together to endure the pandemic and gives me great optimism that we will be in a strong position to recover and grow.

“The success links closely to the significant improvement on our local economy we continuously strive for through the Preston Model and our Community Wealth Building agenda.”

Overall, in the study, Preston ranked 13th city in the UK out of 51. The index also looked at a number of factors including jobs, income, work-life balance, transport, skills, environment and the house price to earning ratio.

Councillor Matthew Brown said: “ The success underpins our support for the economic and social wellbeing of all Prestonians by building a richer and more democratic economy.

“I am particularly pleased to see above-average improvements in inequality, jobs, environment, work-life balance and housing affordability.

“Our city has enjoyed a remarkable story of growth and innovation over recent years, which we’re sure will continue as we recover from this pandemic.”

Preston has fast become one of the UK’s most impressive property markets. Luxury housing is now in greater demand than ever before as the city’s economy and population grows. Competition is increasing for the most desirable homes, in particular for premium city centre apartment buildings like The Exchange which offers a previously unseen level of quality in the city and also provides market-leading amenities for residents. When it comes to apartments in Preston, this is the city’s number one development.

Officially ranked the best city to live and work in the North West, it is clear that Preston has a bright future ahead of it, and if the time is right for buyers to get ahead of the game and make the most of all the upcoming investment.
