WeWork open £10m office space in Manchester

WeWork open £10m office space in Manchester

WeWork, a global provider of shared workspaces for startups and growing businesses, are developing a new communal office space in Manchester city centre. This will be WeWork’s fifth office space in Manchester and add to the growing global network of flexible office space.

The £10m project near St Peters Square will allow 1,000 new WeWork members to move into the premises across 13 floors. Due for completion in 2020, the new office spaces will be a short walk away from the tech hub of the Northern Quarter, the financial hub of Spinningfields, and nearby transport links including the Manchester Metrolink.

David Kaiser, Head of Real Estate for UK and Ireland at WeWork, said:

"Forty-five percent of WeWork member companies say that WeWork helped accelerate their growth, and expanding our portfolio in Manchester not only proves our dedication to the city, but also provides opportunities for both new and existing members who can use the space to network and collaborate within the WeWork community.”

Up until recently, Manchester was the first city in the UK outside of London that WeWork had expanded into. WeWork made the decision to move into Manchester due to the rapid business growth in the area and lack of flexible working space – an environment now favoured among young professionals, a demographic that make up a huge part of Manchester’s population.

In addition to the undersupply of these increasingly popular social working spaces, Manchester was also chosen due to the number of start-ups in the city. In 2016 alone, 516 tech start-up companies were formed in Manchester, with this figure growing over the last three years.

With continual business growth in Manchester and the city cementing itself as the Northern Powerhouse, more and more people are choosing Manchester as a city to work and live in.

Our Oxygen, AXIS and Uptown developments are all within 10 minutes’ walk of the new WeWork office space. With all these developments offering premium resident facilities such as onsite gyms, swimming pools and cinema rooms, our developments will stand out as desirable places to live for startup entrepreneurs moving into Manchester.
