Atkins named as project managers for Birmingham Airport expansion
One of the largest global engineering consultancies, Atkins, has been announced as project managers on the £500M Birmingham Airport expansion.
Atkins are known for being involved with iconic developments around the world including the Burj Al Arab, Bahrain World Trade Centre and the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland Hotel.
The Birmingham Airport Expansion
The £500m expansion will vastly improve Birmingham Airport’s terminals, flight capacity and passenger capacity, as well as improving the choice of flight destinations including new routes to India and China. It’s predicted this expansion will allow passenger numbers to increase from 13 million a year to 18 million a year, as well as creating 34,000 new jobs.
The airport currently contributes £1.5bn every year to the Birmingham local economy, with this figure expected to rise to £2.1bn a year upon completion in 2033.
Along with the adjacent HS2 development, both the airport expansion and high-speed rail network are significant driving forces in the economic growth of Birmingham and the surrounding area. As well as the predicted increases to the economy from the airport expansion, the HS2 development is also predicted to increase yearly economic output by £4bn and create 50,000 additional jobs in Birmingham and the surrounding communities.
With significant investment in Birmingham and the surrounding area, demand is higher than ever for properties in the area that can maximise on the new economic and career opportunities that are being created. Located less than 10 minutes away from Birmingham Airport and the HS2 site, Park Gate is in a prime location for investors to capitalise on this area of significant growth, as well as allowing residents excellent access to these improved air and rail services.
