Sunday Times names Altrincham one of best places to live in UK

Sunday Times names Altrincham one of best places to live in UK

The Sunday Times has included Altrincham in its prestigious annual Best Places to Live in 2022.  The comprehensive guide features 70 locations in total and is compiled by the newspaper’s expert panel of judges taking into account a wide range of factors, from schools, transport and broadband to culture, green spaces and the health of the high street.

The judges praised Altrincham again for what it described as its “magical” food hall and market that transformed the “worst high street in Britain to one of the region’s best destinations”.

The schools in Altrincham were also celebrated in the guide, with Altrincham Grammar School for Girls hailed as one of the best in the North West. Transport links were also given a special mention, with the tram offering easy access to MediaCityUK and the city centre whilst scenic parks and Cheshire countryside are close by.

Data from Halifax shows that the average house price in the area, is £531,000 which is 10% up on 2020 and shows the significant increase in demand during and after the pandemic.

The Times and Sunday Times Property Editor, Helen Davies, said: “The Sunday Times Best Places to Live list is necessary subjective. Leave it just to statistics and you will never capture the spirit of the place. For that, you need to visit to take into account that ‘you have to be here’ feeling. Is the pub dog-friendly for example? Can you live car-free? What are the schools and houses like? Is it multicultural and multigenerational, and can it offer a good way of life to lots of different sorts of people?

“Ten years ago, when we launched the inaugural list, London’s gravitational pull was strong, the WFH revolution had not yet reached our doorstep and high streets were stacked with chains. How times have changed – and how welcome that change is.

“This year we have discovered new best places to live from resurgent city centres in the North, rejuvenated suburbs across the country, hidden villages in the southwest and a commutable Scottish Island. We hope there is something to suit everyone.”

There’s no doubt that Altrincham continues to go from strength to strength, ad as the awards and accolades keep rolling in, if you’re looking for your next property, now is the perfect time to purchase a new home in the area.

The Address in Altrincham brings a total of 36 luxury one- and two-bed apartments alongside three-bedroom duplexes to the centre of one of the Manchester’s most desirable suburbs.

Finished to impeccable standards, all units feature private balconies. With an impressive central atrium, The Address offers residents the ideal living space from which to explore bustling Altrincham, with the main shopping areas, market, cafes and restaurants all fewer than two minutes’ walk from the front door.
